Have you ever wanted a curtain of worms on strings but didn't want to pay the exorbitant price of roughly 20 cents per piece?
Do you need a new cat toy or entertainment for young children?
Are you bored at home with nothing better to do?
Look no further. Today, I will show you how to make worms (or snakes) out of yarn without knitting needles.
Will you be the string to my worm? |
For this project, you will need either two colors of yarn or one yarn color and a pair of googly eyes to glue on. You will also need a pair of scissors.
First, wrap the yarn around your middle and ring finger in an infinity-loop shape. Repeat until you have two loops on each finger.
Then pull the bottom loops over the top loop and off your fingers. Then, make another infinity-loop and repeat the process until you reach a satisfactory length.
Once you are done with the body, thread the yarn through your pointer finger to your pinky finger twice. (This is the same as the previous two-finger process except uses four fingers instead.) Once again, pull the bottom loop over the top loop and repeat two to four more times depending on how long you want the head to be.
Bring the four-finger process back to two by removing the outer loops and placing them on the middle fingers. The loop on the pointer should go to the middle finger, and the loop on the pinky should go to the ring finger. Then pull the lower loop over the top loop and off the fingers so that only one loop remains on each finger.
To finish, reduce the two loops remaining to one by placing the loop on the ring finger onto the middle finger. Once again, pull the bottom loop over the top loop and off the middle finger.
Left with one loop on the middle finger, cut the excess yarn at the desired length. Pull the excess yarn through the loop to ensure the snake won't fall apart.
Knot the excess yarn on both ends to ensure that the yarn won't unravel.
As a final touch, either knot two small pieces of a different colored yarn to the head or glue on googly eyes to bring the snake to life.
Experimenting with different colors and thickness of yarn will yield different looking snakes. To get the texture of the original worm on a string, use a fuzzy yarn and small googly eyes.
A longer piece of yarn at the end is perfect for a cat toy or for hanging to your ceiling fan and watching it spin.
